Here we go again: the delicate topic of, “Letting it go and if it returns it was meant to be…”

Obviously, it is time, yet again- … to talk about: my mop.

If you missed my random blog about the love and hate of my “mop.” View it HERE

Here we are again. This time, it is not the Swiffer that I have returned to: it is the Swiffer that I have abandoned.

Let me set the scene for you.

Within a day my floors can get absolutely disgusting. Three square meals a day that feed my babes (who drop everything, even with the best of intentions) are bound to leave a mess.  I mean, breakfast for example- soggy rice cereal drenched in almond milk, and sliced banana that can turn to glue within a few minutes and harden on your chairs.

Speaking of rice, we eat that pretty frequently in our house. Let me make that more clear; we feed rice to our barely passable spoon users who shovel it in their mouths by the handful with utter abandon. There are smooshed green beans, root vegetables that get thrown and lost, and things that you would never think make crumbs accumulated in piles you will step in and get stuck on your socks.  We practically live outdoors in bare feet most days this time of year, so include dirt, grass, and sticks to the floor mix. Dirt and dust- and not all accidental foot dirt, but sometimes dirt by the teeny-tiny fistfuls from a baby who doesn’t want to let go before running inside. We also have a cat.

When I say our floors can get disgusting- I know what I’m talking about.

Rarely do I get to sweep after every meal, usually only once a day.  And let’s be honest, there are days when I don’t sweep at all.

So when my husband has corralled our gaggle of kids outside and I have a minute to get my floors clean I want to make it count.

The Swiffer was ok but not great. My messes seemed to be getting trickier and I needed something a bit more heavy duty.

For now, I have put aside my Swiffer for the big jobs, and I’m  letting a “real mop” take over. I guess I have actually missed a real mop. Looking at my mop and the state of my floor situation can tell you a few things about me and my life-

New mop: I’m feeling optimistic that I am getting my life together once and for all.

Actual dirt on floors: kids are living their best lives and having fun.

Sticky floors: I am really struggling with life right now.

Immaculate floors: If these are present in my house- and you are a visitor, you make me nervous, and I don’t want YOU to look in any of my drawers.

Only 2 meals worth of food crumbs on the floor: I like you and I’m comfortable around you.

The new mop in the mix is the  O-Cedar Easy Wring Microfiber Spin Mop. I’m a month in and so far so good. I like using hot clean water in the bucket; I like using actual cleaner for the floor. I LOVE that this mop doesn’t require a puddle that I push around, but that it wrings out really well. I find it effective, fun, and it seems to require less elbow grease to get the job done. It also has me feeling more frugal since I’m back to washing a mop head and not using something disposable.

My new mop has me all sorts of excited for becoming the mom with decent floors ALL the time. A year ago I wrote a love letter to my Swiffer- you can read it HERE

This is one to my new mop.

Dear O-Cedar Easy Wring Microfiber Spin Mop,

I thought I would never be able to commit again to a mop. Truth is, I believed I would be willing to try again with a REAL mop- you are a real mop- aren’t you? I am OVER settling for adequate, when effective, consistency, and reusable are here at my fingertips. I promise to always have time to fill your bucket with hot water. Let’s build a future of clean floors- together.

Sincerely, Me
